In the Now

What I’m Watching: “General Hospital”
Yes, it’s true. And you can judge me all you want. There was one summer in middle school when I became obsessively attached to General Hospital for one particular storyline. It involved a woman, Carly, being kidnapped while pregnant by her husband’s half brother who wanted to take her baby. Soap opera gold.

Once the storyline was over, I was finished too. But, with daytime television lacking, I’ve started watching “General Hospital” again. It’s different, but also the same. Luckily, I’m not attached to it like I was. I just watched until 2:00 comes and I can turn on “Friends.”

What I’m Reading: “Catching Fire” by Suzanne Collins

CF

I remembered “Catching Fire” to be kind of slow with not much action. I was wrong. There’s so much I have forgotten from the second book that it’s almost like reading it for the first time. Rereading these books was a great decision. And the stills leaking out for this movie are so amazing. The costume designers deserve many awards.

What I’m Listening To: John Mayer
Ever since the concert last Thursday, I’ve been listening to old school John Mayer. He didn’t play as many old songs as I wanted, so I’ve been listening to “Room for Squares” and “Continuum” a lot the past week.

What Color I’m Painting My Nails: Fast Track by China Glaze
This is my go-to color. And it also happens to be from “The Hunger Games” collection from a few years ago. It is a more modern take on a neutral, adding just a touch of sparkle. It’s also fast drying. Something that I’ve learned is a must for me.

What Image I Love: Hurricane in Saturn

From nasa.gov

From nasa.gov

The images released Sunday from NASA are incredible and beautiful. The vivid colors and the eye of the hurricane is mesmerizing. You can check out more images released from NASA’s Cassini spacecraft can be found here.

In the Now

I thought I’d throw in something different. We’ll see how it pans out. Hope you guys enjoy!

What I’m Watching: “Argo”

Argo

I’m not going to review it, because I really don’t think I could do it justice. In short, it was worthy of all the awards it won. The acting was terrific, despite knowing what the outcome was, I was glued to my seat, terrified for the seven men and women. It’s a fascinating story and I plan on reading more into the actual events of the rescue Tony Mendez and the CIA orchestrated to rescue the six diplomats from Iran.

What I’m Reading: “The Next Best Thing” by Kristan Higgins

My mom was cleaning out her collection of books over the weekend, and I snagged a couple from her. This story folllows the life of Lucy, a young widow, who is trying to move on from her first relationship after her husband’s death. But, he’s refusing to give up quite so easily.

What I’m Listening To: Justin Timberlake’s “The 20/20 Experience”

JT

It’s an experience. He got that right. It’s soulful and poppy, and not commercial at all. And I love it. While the seven and eight minute long songs do seem to be a bit much at times, the overall sound is smooth and I can’t get enough of it. There’s something for almost everyone. Pop, R&B, and a ballad. “Mirrors” is still my favorite, but his ballad “Blue Ocean Floor” is smooth and calming. I’m anticipating the second part of the album already.

What Color I’m Painting My Nails: purple and blue

My fingernails are purple with a hint of gold shimmer in it. (Because…glitter, you know.) My toenails are an ocean blue. They’re both very summery, and the blue surprisingly doesn’t make my pale skin pasty. The blue on my toes is Sally Hansen’s Insta-Dri in Brisk Blue. It’s a great color for spring and summer. (I refuse to take pictures of just my toes, sorry guys.)

I added a few drops of China Glaze’s Fast Track with the Ulta purple to get the gold shimmer.

There’s not enough shimmer for it to be extremely evident, but I kinda like it that way.

What Image I Can’t Stop Looking At: 9/11 from above

This image was rereleased by NASA on Sept. 11, 2012. It’s an amazing image, showing just how destructive that day was.

DIY Nail Art

Between myself and two friends, Tara and Savanna, we have amassed a nice collection of fingernail polish. We’re big fans and constantly change our nail color. I’ve been guilty of changing my polish multiple times within a day.

One of my favorite blogs, Cupcakes and Cashmere, introduced us to the solid color on every nail but the ring finger. While hers was inspired because she was engaged, we simply loved having some sparkle. While it’s still a go-to look for us, we’ve been experimenting with different DIY nail art.

After cutting many small strips of tape and countless Google searches for what to do, we decided to keep it pretty simple. I love to paint their nails, even if it’s just one color. So, while I currently don’t have a journalism job, maybe there’s hope as a nail artist.

Thanks to Savanna for being a hand model. Maybe you can find your identical hand twin. (Everybody got that Friends reference, right?)

We used Exotic Encounters from China Glaze’s fall 2012 collection (the darker color) and Fast Track from the China Glaze Hunger Games collection (the gold).

China Glaze is a favorite brand. They not only have consistently great colors, but the polish goes on well, dries fast and the brush is the perfect size. Another great blog for nail polish is The PolishAholic. It’s a great site to go to before purchasing any fingernail polishes.

We’ve made it half way through the week, here’s to an enjoyable last half!
